The Case of the Missing Goal 🕵️🏑
Canterbury arrived ready for battle, armed with sticks, determination, and Alex’s inspirational team talk.
Once underway Canterbury went 1–0 down to an unfortunate breakaway goal. But the Green & Whites weren’t about to let that derail the mission! The team put captains wisdom into action with excellent wide play, strong passing, and a superb press that frustrated the opposition. The umpire was equally committed to their craft, ensuring every free hit was taken from the exact spot of the offence. No shortcuts, no negotiations, and certainly no moving the ball three centimetres to save your legs.
Moi took a hit to the chin, leaving her with a sore jaw and, more tragically, unable to enjoy the sacred half-time sweets. A devastating blow to team morale.
Second half Canterbury came out firing, pressing relentlessly, winning the ball high, and creating plenty of chances.
The drama continued as Alex took a ball to the head, acquiring some semi-permanent purple eyeshadow just in time for her evening plans. Nothing says ready for a night out quite like a hockey-induced smoky eye!
Blobby’s strong tackles earned her a rather controversial green card, leaving the umpire’s commitment to law and order under investigation. Meanwhile, Izzy revealed she couldn’t see through her short-corner mask because of her fake eyelashes. Beauty may be pain, but apparently, it’s also a defensive liability.
Despite winning short corners, creating chances, and hitting the post, Canterbury just couldn’t find the net. The final score was 1–0, but it certainly didn’t reflect the team’s efforts.
All in all, the goal may have gone missing, but the effort certainly didn’t! A performance to be proud of, even if the post and Izzy’s eyelashes conspired against us! The search for the goal continues…
