Dear Diary,
It was a bright, sunny afternoon (almost early evening!) and the 2s were feeling confident and ready to go. We soon got into our stride and started creating plenty of chances on goal. Unfortunately, we just couldn’t seem to get them over the line! And so, we headed into half-time with the score at 0–0.
Despite having the majority of possession, we conceded the first goal shortly into the second half. We were determined to get one back, and it wasn’t long before PJ broke through the defence and we scored via an EJ deflection!
Not long after, our second goal came from a short corner. Jina slipped a beautifully disguised ball to Rachel, who played our short slap option perfectly towards the far-right post, where Sue got a lovely touch to send it into the corner of the goal.
Our third goal also came from a short corner, this time with the ball being pushed out to PJ, who whipped it up (safely, of course — no danger balls here!) before it came back down just in time to hit the backboard. And our fourth and final goal? You guessed it… ANOTHER SHORT CORNER! PJ unleashed a cracking hit from the top of the D towards the left post, with Jina getting another beautiful touch to send it straight into the corner. What a way to finish!
Throughout the game, our defenders — Jina, Taylor, Pip, PJ and Lydia — played some beautiful passes and created some fantastic opportunities, linking up brilliantly with our midfielders, Alice, Rachel, Chloe and Sophie. The midfield then did a great job of moving the ball up the lines to find Sue or Pippa, who could link up with Ellie and help create those all-important goals and short corners.
And we can’t forget our goalie, Becs, who pulled off some top-tier saves throughout the match. She even threw in a few cheeky fakes, convincing the Ashford players she was going to continue play before casually letting the ball glide off the baseline instead. Keeping them on their toes!
XOXO,
Canterbury Ladies 2s
