Canterbury 2XI continued their strong start to the season with an impressive 4-1 victory over local rivals Herne Bay 1 at Polo Farm.
The home side started brightly and took the lead after just 10 minutes when Freddie Post found the net with a well-taken field goal. Canterbury continued to dominate possession and were rewarded again midway through the half as Post doubled both his tally and Canterbury’s advantage with another clinical finish in the 25th minute.
Herne Bay briefly threatened to get back into the contest, but Canterbury’s defence stood firm. Goalkeeper Ben Beatty was in inspired form throughout, producing a string of excellent saves to keep the visitors at bay and preserve the two-goal cushion heading into the break.
Canterbury extended their lead shortly after half-time with a well-recovered penalty corner conversion by Andrew Dunn, before adding a fourth well taken individual goal by Henry Hodson on the hour mark to put the result beyond doubt. Herne Bay managed a late consolation goal in the 62nd minute, but it proved little more than a footnote on an afternoon controlled by the hosts.
The result reflected a strong all-round team performance from Canterbury, with contributions across the pitch.
MoM: Freddie Post, whose two first-half goals set Canterbury firmly on the path to victory.
DoD: Ben Beatty, not for his goalkeeping, which was outstanding, but for enthusiastically celebrating one of his many fine saves as though he’d scored the winner in a cup final.
A convincing win and three valuable points for Canterbury 2 as they look to build momentum in the South East Division 1 East campaign
