In the week that Ollie Neal finally returned from ‘walkabout’, the Batchelor-Coop Millers provided Tyler Aitken with his hotly anticipated competitive goal-keeping debut!

Captain Sharratt marshalled his (vastly depleted) troops on the road at Gore Court, in a top-of-the-table clash. The Millers were fast out of the blocks and, despite a slippery pitch, exerted the early pressure. Ten minutes in, though, and against the run of play, Gore Court won a short corner and converted with a well-executed flick high into the net after some silky stick skills at the top of the D.

The game was fairly even after this, with both keepers making impressive saves before the break. Following the half-time talk and a bag of Haribo Tangfastic’s, the visitors came out swinging, figuratively speaking (on this occasion). The game became very end-to-end with both sides trying to wrest control of the game, and both keepers were frequently called into action.

In the final 15minutes, the Millers attacked relentlessly but were unable to convert from either open play or short corners. A penalty corner, right on the final whistle, gave the visitors one last-gasp chance, but as the score-line suggests, they were unable to capitalise, and Gore Court were able to maintain their position at the top of the league.

Thanks to Tyler for a heroic, man-of-the-match performance in goal, no doubt motivated, in part, by Captain Sharratt’s “pints for points” incentive scheme*. While the skipper was understandably disappointed with the lack of points, his wallet was doubtless happier with the proportionally reduced number of ‘pints’ owed to his bespoke keeper.
