Another grim Saturday saw the boys at home against Burnt Ash 1s. Captain Simon kicked things off with a shout to “go all out from the first whistle,” but the first half was a bit of a slog — at least it wasn’t raining this time. Things got off to a rough start when a lazy ball rolled through the D, bounced off a Burnt Ash stick, and ended up in our net, leaving us 1–0 down.

The second half, though, was a completely different story.

After a frantic half-time team talk — a mix of motivational speeches and mild chaos (and Loydy and Harey had finished their settler behind the dugout) — Canterbury came out firing. With renewed energy and focus, we started to take control, putting Burnt Ash under pressure. George opened the scoring with a brilliant reverse shot from the top of the D that caught the keeper off guard and got the comeback underway.

From there, we really took over. Gadget stepped up big time, calmly slotting home two goals — the first after a spell of sustained attacking pressure, and the second with ice-cold composure that put the game beyond doubt. The crowd (or at least the three of us on the sideline) went wild, and Gadget’s brace completed a proper turnaround.

Even with the cold, the rough start, and a few dodgy moments, Canterbury’s second-half performance was solid. The team showed real character, battling back from an early setback and controlling the game with confidence and teamwork, securing a deserved 3–1 victory over Burnt Ash.
