Another fine example of a team performance; no one really outshining the others but a combined effort to grind out another victory.
The first half saw many chances come and go with the oppo keep making some excellent saves. For a while it seemed he would prevent anything getting in. Steve, Dell, Jim and James C. constantly created space and opportunity for the speed kings up front of Harry and Kai. Several saves, missed shots and wayward final passes meant the first half ended goal-less.
The second half started much the same as the first with spurned opportunity followed by things just not going our way. James L marshaled the back four of Tony, Graeme and Graham well to the point where any attack gave little for David K in goal to do. A break away goal was likely to be the only chance Gillingham would get but mature thinking and clever positional play ensure the back four worked with and for each other exposing very little to chance.
Tony has to come off with a sore achilleas so after a little re-shuffle with James C. going back into defence and David filing in the midfield the game opened up a little. At last Kai was able to tap in at the far post after a fierce shot in from Dell. Harry then finished off after some excellent dribbling and pressure attack. Steve crashed the ball at the keeper from the top of the D and surprisingly it crept between the keepers legs; his first real mistake.
A final score of 3 nil reads well but it was not all plain sailing and the oppo fought hard to get something from the game and the extra input put in by the club!!
