On Saturday the 8th November, the Grims travelled to top of the leagues Blackheath 1s.
It was a beautiful sunny day and the boys were hoping to create a massive upset in the league and potentially 3 wins on the bounce?!
We started the game with brilliant intensity and were the better side for the first 15 minutes. Unfortunately Blackheath opened the scoring with a short corner and followed it with a scrappy goal to make it 2-0 in a matter of minutes. The boys showed real fighting spirit and we managed to claw one back on the last play of the first half (flicked home by Tom Hutchings).
Extreme positive messages at half time had the boys believing that 3 points were on the cards. We races out the blocks and had Blackheath in complete disarray. Their coach was wailing by the sideline, screaming at his boys to wake up. Moments later they were looking down the barrel of a Canterbury equaliser and were very fortunate as Miles Boydell hits a reverse just past the backpost.
The equaliser just wouldn’t come for the Grims however, who had defended brilliantly all day, until Emil Pedersen acted out his best Bambi on ice impression and they converted the following short corner. Moments later another corner went in for the hosts and the game was sadly past the boys in green and white.
Potentially if the pitch wasn’t so slippy and unplayable, the Grims could’ve caused a huge upset. The reverse fixture is going to be an absolute belter at Polo Farm.
Mom- Oliver Coope, a brilliant engine in midfield, direct on the ball & had his man on toast all game
Dod- Emil Pedersen, only for the slipping and sliding produced from wearing George Coombs trainers. Very debatable man of the match but we move forward.
Yours truly.
