Could the Friars double their winning streak of one game?!
Well amazingly within 45 seconds they were on the right track from a burst (is that possible for him-ed?) up the right wing from Hayward who passed into the D to John Boy who dummied – well OK missed- leaving young Tim Lewis expertly placed to cleanly hit in.
However after that the Friars rather sat back and let Anchorians take the match to them. But the Friars defence – Philpott, Ricketts & Barton (sounds a bit like a firm of solicitors) were awesome snuffing out any chances with Trigger in goal once again getting superb value for his match fee.
Tan, Harris, Hurlow and Dowling were strong in mid field and at half time the Friars were told firmly to keep possession and in the second half they did this a bit better but still did not force a short corner; Anchs though continued to win them but to no avail.
A Merve the Swerv one-on-one from the half way line did not gain another goal (though possibly should have) but very shortly afterwards in the 60th minute Chris Hendy passed to John Boy who didn’t air shot this time scoring a nice goal. The Friars could breathe a bit and so the score remained. Anchs really turned on the pressure that showed in the number of penalty corners, Anchs 12 (at least), Friars: 0 but it was the Friars who got the ball in the net and that is what counts! But the Friars really need to improve on gaining PCs.
However the Friars defence were not finished.. they continued mopping up but this time in the showers and quite literally. Jamie Harris had been warned about the slippy surface, went flying which brought forth Trigger, Cllr Rickets and Hendy armed with mops and all 3 proceeded to sweep the showers. Unfortunately owing to media restrictions no photo evidence of this interesting sight can be brought to you but it’s all true! And that shower floor is lethal! Thanks to Chris Martin and Mat Ratcliffe for umpiring.
Good luck to Jonesy who’s off to Barcelona on international duty.
