After a week that began with plenty of availability and ended in a flurry of late call-ups (and the loss of Alex to umpiring duties!), Canterbury Ladies 4th XI fielded a brilliant mix of youth and experience on Saturday.
Edenbridge started strongly, and Ava in goal was outstanding—keeping us in the game with some fearless saves as the defence of Sibs, Munnsy, Isla, and Rhiannon held firm despite going a goal down. The midfield engine of Izzy, Megan, Lizzie, and Poppy ran tirelessly, feeding the forwards Hermione, Vicki, and Mel who also never stopped running.
At halftime, the balls were out—always a good omen—and a tactical reshuffle (Hermione into midfield) saw a more dynamic Canterbury dominate the second half. Izzy’s quick thinking from a free hit led to Poppy slotting home the equaliser—brilliant teamwork!
Edenbridge sneaked another on the break, but spirits stayed high. Player of the Match went to Isla for her tireless defending and confident attacking, Ava a close second. DOD Poppy—for her stylishly late arrival! A great performance all round—onwards and upwards, 4s!
