Canterbury Pilgrims vs Sevenoaks 3s – Match Report
This weekend marked the first 3rd XI clash of the season, as the Grims took on Sevenoaks at their home ground. After a couple of close games in previous weeks, the squad turned up eager, fired up, and hungry for their first 3 points of the campaign.
From the first whistle, the Grims came out with real intent. Within just two minutes, we broke through their D — a sharp reverse flick from JB finding the back of the net to secure an early lead.
Not long after, a well-earned short corner gave Gadget the chance to show his precision. His drag flick was expertly placed past their runners and keeper, giving the Grims a comfortable 2–0 lead heading into half-time.
The second half saw more of the same high energy. Every player put in a proper shift, sticking to their role, keeping the ball, and maintaining solid structure at the back. We continued to pile on pressure and win corners, with Gadget stepping up again to bury another drag flick. At the final whistle, the Grims walked away with a well-deserved 3–0 win and their first clean sheet of the season.
Special mentions go to Simon Buckingham for his work rate up front, driving the team on and setting the tone with a great performance; Goody for causing chaos in their midfield and creating attacking opportunities; and Ben Beatty for keeping calm under pressure to secure that clean sheet.
Man of the Match was a tough call with several names in the mix, but the well-deserved title went to Emil — rock solid at the back all game. Sevenoaks never stood a chance getting past him.
DOD: George W – for a very late and very unnecessary green card.
A brilliant all-round performance from the team. Massive thanks to Vicky for running the bench. We’ll look to carry this same energy into our next clash — under the lights at Polo against Ashford 1s in two weeks’ time.
