On a scorching day, Canterbury 3s faced off against top of the table- Old Williamsonians in a fiercely contested match with Canterbury battling a relegation fight and Old Willy’s wanting to secure promotion, all to to play for for both sides.

From the first whistle, Williamsonians came out strong, applying early pressure. It took Canterbury around ten minutes to settle into the game and match their opponents’ intensity. Tackles were flying in from both sides, setting the tone for a highly competitive encounter.

Despite both teams pushing forward, the first half ended goalless, with strong defensive work keeping the scoreboard blank. During halftime, some inspirational words from Ziggy and Chirpy fired up the Canterbury side.

The second half saw an intense back-and-forth battle, with both teams creating chances. Maddie, Ellie, Johanna, and Jess stood firm in defense, keeping Williamsonians at bay. In midfield, Bex, Tilly, Neive, Scarlett, and Kate worked tirelessly to break up play and push forward. Up front, EJ, Sue, and Chirpy came close to finding the breakthrough, while Georgia made a crucial save to deny Williamsonians a scoring opportunity.

With around 20 minutes left on the clock, Canterbury finally broke the deadlock. Neive made a fantastic run, weaving through the opposition before delivering a pinpoint pass to EJ. With precision and power, EJ struck an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner, leaving the keeper with no chance.

Buoyed by the goal, Canterbury shifted their focus to a disciplined defensive effort for the remainder of the match. Holding their composure and absorbing pressure, they saw out the final minutes to secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory.

It was a brilliant team effort and an excellent display of hockey from both sides, with Canterbury emerging victorious in a well-earned win 💥 💥 💥
