This morning, the Canterbury men’s development side tackled Herne Bay hockey club in a close fight for victory. At the beginning of the game it could have gone either way, everyone on both teams was really going for an opening goal to put them ahead. Not too long into the first half a ball was played to through to Pete for a first time strike at the goal which went past the keeper into the left corner, 1-0 Canterbury. After this the play was very back and forward with many chances for both teams. A special mention to Oliver Holness who kept Canterbury in the game with some outstanding saves. After an encouraging half time talk we set off again but just minutes into the second half Herne Bay managed to equalise to make the score 1-1. Once again the play was very good from both teams and some brave defending from the Canterbury players stopped Herne bay from slipping away with another goal. Further into the second half Connor played a great ball through the Herne Bay defensive line for me to place it into the corner to make the score 2-1. Then in the last 15 minutes of the game Canterbury really upped their game and Herne Bay were finding themselves having to try and stop attack after attack. The final whistle then blew to make the end result 2-1 to Canterbury.
Many thanks to Michael Holness for coaching the team today.
