CANTERBURY V BRISTOL
Match Report: Canterbury 3-2 Bristol
In a thrilling encounter, Canterbury emerged victorious against Bristol with a 3-2 win, in a match filled with intense action and dramatic moments across all four quarters.
Canterbury took control from the outset, playing with intensity and putting Bristol under pressure early. This lead to Canterbury opening the scoring in the first quarter, by none other than Lachlan Sampson. As the sides continued to battle out the first quarter, Sampson found himself in amongst the action again, picking up a green card for a poor tackle. Shortly after returning to the pitch, another poor tackle from Sampson landed him with a yellow card. Despite the extra number, Bristol struggled to break through Canterbury defensive set-up, the quarter ending at 1-0.
The second quarter saw both teams continue to battle for dominance. Canterbury doubled their advantage, with a clinical finish from man of the match Callum Brown-Lea to make it 2-0. Bristol responded though, getting on the scoreboard with a well-executed goal of their own, reducing the deficit to 2-1 by halftime.
The third quarter was Canterbury’s period of control once again. Their offensive pressure remained high, and they were rewarded with a third goal. A well executed penalty corner saw Brown-Lea add to his goal tally, and extended Canterbury’s lead to 3-1. Bristol pushed forward in search of a way back into the match but could not capitalize on their opportunities during this period.
Bristol refused to give up and came out strongly in the fourth quarter, launching a determined offensive push. Their efforts were rewarded with another goal, cutting the score to 3-2. However, despite their late pressure, Canterbury held firm defensively, denying Bristol any further breakthroughs. The final whistle blew and the game ended 3-2, with Canterbury securing some much needed points.
