The Batchelor-Coop Millers featured last on AW1 this week and Captain Sharratt was feeling the pressure to deliver a result, following Canterbury’s three preceding successes of the day on the show pitch.

The first half saw a strong showing from the home side, particularly with Storm Bert providing some considerable wind-assistance as the Millers attacked the cricket pitch end. Thomas Newell provided the first goal, just five minutes in, with Captain Marvel then deploying a Sharratt-Sidewinder-Short-corner-Strike to make it two nil in the opening ten.

The home side was rampant and Arthur Aikin tucked away a third from a deft Ollie Neal cross. Thomas Newell completed the first half with a characteristic spin, to beat the defender, and a shot from the top of the D to make it four.

The main discussion at half-time centred on Dave Upton’s ignominious aerial prowess, following his attendance at the recent ‘Shazza’s Aerial Masterclass’ training session. The neighbours two doors down were certainly lucky that the weather was too inclement for them to be out in the garden and thus potential casualties/ unwilling recipients, of a side-line ball midway through the first half….

In the second half Bert (ever the fickle meddler) switched his allegiance and offered support to Herne Bay. Ben Beatty was the star of the second half (and he was also pretty good in the first half too) with a number of top saves to limit the visitors to just the three goals – and effectively seal the win!

Thanks to Stu and Lenny for umpiring in some tricky conditions.

Footnote: Last week’s report incorrectly attributed the solitary goal to Ollie Neal – proving that he is equally adept at poaching goals off the pitch as he is on it. In fact, Reef Upton, was the goal-scorer and should have due kudos restored (even if it is too late to correct on GMS).

Squad: Ben Beatty (GK), Dave Upton, Pete Ratcliff, Neil Barnes, Simon Hurlow, Diego, Paul Sharratt (C), Reef Upton, Morgan Abbott, Ben Hancock, Ollie Neal, Thomas Newell, Arthur Aikin
