Well, if you’re either a 100% or nothing. You either don’t win MOM or you win MOM and the DOD accolade.
A very windy, cold, miserable day at SLC for an unfortunate bottom of the table clash. After the riches of last weeks win against Gore Court, spirits were high, as were the winds at SLC… we knew Cliftonville would be up for the encounter and we had to not stoop to the level of hockey they played.
Chances game for the Grims to start, some encouraging hockey, with lots of D penetration’s we just couldn’t find that finishing touch and as the story goes, if you don’t put the white thing between the other white things, they will! And well they did, unexpectedly.
More chances for the grims and more frustration as we couldn’t put that finishing touch on what was encouraging play, from each line we moved the ball well. With the aid of the high winds, an Ariel over the top missed by us, was finished well by their play maker to make it 2-0 going into the break.
Lots of frustrated players at half time with some choice words coming from the experienced lads in the team, Gee’d us up to attack the second half.
With all the better chances we decided to not score until the final 5 minutes of the game, when you know, it’s really squeaky bum time. A slip left PC to Hurst was dispatched well into the roof of the net between post man and keeper. 2-1 could we snatch a point ? Another PC with 1 minute left, a low, hard Gadget flick hitting a foot on the line, PS.
After every attempt from their keeper to put Hurst off, stare downs, awful chat and a reminder that “if you miss you loose” I had no choice but to remind him that I don’t miss and that the ball in the net proved that. 2-2 draw, a point snatched which may prove pivotal further down the line.
