The Friars opponents are 2nd in the league and those of a gambling inclination had long odds on The Friars getting even a point from this game given only 12 were available and not all fit. That went down to 11 against the oppo’s 14 when Guy Dowling pulled a calf muscle after 10 mins and joined Manager Big Brother Phil on the bench.

Within 3 minutes Sevenoaks went one up and those of a glass half empty bent were wondering where the final score might end up. Oh ye of little faith – the Friars then turned a corner to the sunny uplands, or rather the other end of the pitch. A couple of forays promised a bit and after yet another approach into the Sevenoaks D and a shot from Barry Thomas which their goalie half stopped the ball slowly proceeded over the goal line: 1-1. And there in short and to our surprise the score remained, though not without Greg Lound picking up his 2nd greenie in a fortnight though more for his passion than anything untoward.

At half time Barry Thomas went off stage to implant his contact lenses but having scored a goal in the first half without them did not trouble their keeper in the second – there’s a message there Barry!

Trigger in his words of wisdom followed up with exhortations “to get physical” if we were to get anything out off the game. And so we did, contesting everything – there was huge effort from all in the Friars but especially the defence. Trigger’s vocal chords were on overtime and Philpott back after his eye injury gave much hitting power. The 3 ‘Js’ – Jamie Harris, James Blackburn and Jolyon Miles again all did a good shift. The youngest on the pitch Angus Solley also did his job on the left wing.

As the second half progressed Sevenoaks became increasingly frustrated from the Friars’ “they shall not pass attitude” and though they passed the ball around prettily all their shots were off target or being saved.

So another winning draw – 5 out of 9 so far this season !

Thanks to Phil and Lee for their umpiring.
