Two Nil all score draws On The Bounce and yet another thriller after last week’s. Even the umpire said he hadn’t umpired such an exciting nil all draw! So let no one kid you into assuming that the Friars do walking or dull hockey.
This time we had 12 against a somewhat burly and well built but younger 14 and they had 2 managers one with a clip board – scary – were we in the right league we wondered?

Truth be told once we had settled into a normal Friars rhythm it was a “Yes”! There was more ball for the forwards than the previous week & by popular democratic acclaim we played 4-4-3 this week but BA still couldn’t get a goal though at least their goal keeper and defence had to work a bit. However it was the Friars defence and midfield who once again were the heroes with Trigger awesome as ever. He really gets a default MoM but we can’t give it to him every week (but he gets another point for the Family Fridge – please note Oly!)

Our midfield this week was much strengthened with a second appearance of our Springbok Jarryd Ramdunnie and MoM and the return of young Will Pattinson. Jarryd’s strength and pace and Will’s courage (quite happy to mix it with the Big Burly Boys of Burnt Ash!) and pace meant that the home team did not have it all their own way before faltering in the Friars trenches with Mike Barton especially but also Geoff, Alex and James & Trigger’s legs always denying BA that elusive goal.

In the 69th minute the home team thought they had won as the ball crashed into the backboard; they went into mass celebration but their umpire disallowed it for a foot. Catching them off guard looking the wrong way Young Will was off down the right wing but couldn’t get through to score which was probably just as well as a draw was the right result – at least we thought it was!

Lovely tea and ale back at Bexley Cricket Club and thanks to Mike for his Fun Bus chauffeuring which crammed 7 of us in! We await whether Jonesy has been called up for the England over 80s.
