First home league game of the season, all players feeling high and ready for a competitive match! With a strong start, Canterbury were all over OGs and created ourselves multiple scoring opportunities. This got the crowed going and the players buzzing. After a quick team chat at quarter time, we were back on the pitch with more energy. Still dominating, we used our speed to attack and won a short from some clinical play, which was put away by our man of the match (or the ‘wow’), Abbie with a dope flick! Remembering the feeling of being in the lead, we used this to continue making chances for ourselves. Keeping positive and having the belief to sniff out that win, we ended the first half 1-0 up!
We refuelled with some half time munchies and got back on the pitch with our heads in the game. However, the third quarter felt a lot more back and forth and we conceded a short corner which quickly turned to a goal. Our heads were a little less in the game at this point and, despite not giving up, OGs repeated this short corner making the score 2-1. The fourth quarter came and we continuously fought. Still creating opportunities we had one last hope in the final seconds of the game as a corner was won… not this week.
A tough match with lots of great play, unfortunately lead us to a 2-1 loss. We’ll tweak the game plan and be ready to face Old Loughts away next week and get some points to bump ourselves up the table!!!
