Teddington 3-3 Canterbury: A Gritty Comeback in the Season Opener
The opening match of the league season saw Canterbury travel to Teddington, a side that has often proven to be a challenging opponent in previous encounters. The game began with Teddington taking an early lead, much to the frustration of the Canterbury squad. However, the momentum shifted when Josh Preble cut through the Teddington defense with a dazzling run, slotting the ball past the keeper from a tight angle to equalize.
Despite this, Teddington regained control, capitalizing on a short corner to net their second, followed by a rebound goal that fell kindly for their forward, leaving Canterbury trailing 3-1 at halftime.
Undeterred, Canterbury came out in the second half with renewed energy, dominating possession and showing impressive composure despite the scoreline. Their patience was rewarded when Callum Brown-Lea delivered a sensational drag flick, narrowing the deficit to 3-2. With their confidence building, Canterbury pressed hard in the final quarter, applying relentless pressure on Teddington’s defense.
As the clock ticked down, a golden opportunity arose. A short corner in the dying minutes saw Richford unleash a good effort from the top of the D. Although his shot didn’t find the back of the net, Man of the Match Josh Preble was quick to react, roofing the rebound to complete the comeback and secure a well-deserved 3-3 draw.
