Canterbury ladies 4th team had a challenging start to the league with an away fixture against the newly relegated Holcombe 3’s. We welcomed debutants Ava and Neive into the squad this week, and the return of Sibs and Trudy after long stints out through injury. The rest of the team was made up of the usual bunch of lovelies ready to get the season underway.

It was a fast paced game with some entertaining end to end Hockey, but unfortunately Holcs were the 1st to get on the score sheet. Soon after though Canterbury returned the pressure with Mel Lee skilfully lifting the ball over the downed keeper into the back of the net, just after Sapphire had done a gracious swan dive over the baseline to keep the ball in play. With some young Holcombe forwards they were able to outpace our slightly older defence which left Trudy a lot of work to do.
The second half saw Canterbury starting to find some rhythm and making some nice passing moves from defence into attack with Zoe very close to scoring our second goal, but just couldn’t get her stick on it. Despite the tiresome work from Maddie,Ellie and Freyja in defence and Ava, Kate, Neive, and Sophie in the middle, Canterbury found themselves finishing second with a 5-1 defeat, which certainly was not a true reflection of how the team played.

Squad: Trudy, Sibs, Munnsey, Alex, Kate, Freyja, Ellie G, Maddie, Neive, Ava, Sophie, Mel, Sapphire, Zoe and Nikki
