L4’s vs Brom & Becs

With this being the second league game in 3 days and playing 2nd in the league Brom and Becs, all fingers were crossed that the 36hr break in between was enough for the more ‘experienced’ (aka old) players to have recovered well enough as we only had one sub!

There were plenty of positive vibes with Lucy Barnes managing the bench, Lara Wilkinson joining us after a couple of months break from hockey, (you can come again), and Go-Mads sporting some new purple eye shadow.

Play started off strong with Canterbury having lots of shooting opportunities but just couldn’t connect the final pass around their GK. Unfortunately Brom and Becs managed to slip away on the break and squeeze a goal in the far post.
However Canterbury continued attacking, with Lara and zoe scurrying around putting pressure on, and many opportunities were created including several short corners which were unfortunately also saved by their goalie!
Half time came about @ 1-0 down, but an inspiring talk from Lucy set us for the second half.

With the dynamic duo of Nikki and Moi coming together, Nikki at the top of the D going past a few players and Moi shouting words of encouragement (we think), Nikki managed to level the playing field with a goal bound rocket, but also wiping out one of the opposition in the process. A short injury break leading to a questionable analogy in our team huddle gave us the motivation for the rest of the game… something about that extra one degree of heat to make the water boil!!

With Rachel impressed by this, continued to cause problems for Brom and Becs and a looooong run by Mel to the base line looked threatening. And then whilst running back into position, with no one around her, Freyja was got by the carpet monster and ended up in a heap- there is no questioning she is definitely her mother’s daughter.
Then followed another unlucky break away goal for Brom and Becs putting them ahead for the second time. However, with just minutes remaining Sophie brilliantly won a short corner to give Canterbury one more chance.
Moi stepped up to strike but fooled the defenders slipping it to Nikki who smashed it straight into the backboard, GOAL !!! The final score being 2-2!
Massive well played to everyone, and with a whole 2 weeks rest this time we should be more than ready for the next game! MOM: Lara
DOD: Freyja
