L4s vs Cliftonville

You lucky things, we have been busy so two match reports from us this week!

Starting with our re-arranged league game against Cliftonville late mid-week on a school night, because how else would you want to spend your evenings!
We started off strong finding tea and coffee in the changing room along with a whiteboard to replace Nikki’s laminated piece of paper for our team talk.
With Canterbury having won the pushback, we kept possession and did some splendid play down the pitch, the ball gracefully crossed into the top of the D for Moi to neatly place it in the goal, BOOM! 1-0! This early goal ruffled Cliftonville and so they came back at us with force, sending the balls flying into Rachel’s thigh, Nikki’s knee, and Moi’s little toe nail, but like absolute troopers they carried on not phased by the opposition. A long corner came and Nikki took it round one and another and another and another with a perfectly placed strike into the corner of the backboard giving us a 2-0 lead.
After a half time rendition of Sibs balls (even in her absence) Canterbury were ready to carry on the superb start. Unfortunately though Cliftonville managed to sneak a goal back fairly quickly and continued stepping up the pressure.
Canterbury were slightly phased by this and it was getting tough out there. With some great defending by Ellie, Juhi and Sophie, Canterbury were hanging on hard. In the battle though Maddie unfortunately took an elbow in the face, splitting her cheek… (ouch)… turning her shirt red!
The end was coming nearer and with one last push Heidi won a short corner just as the whistle blew. With everyone lined up around the D, Canterbury were surely going to produce something wonderful! A straight strike from Moi saved by the keeper, the rebound then saved , but third time lucky the ball fell to Rachel who slotted it neatly into the goal to make the final score 3-1!
With our next league game only 36 hrs away, recovery was at the top of everyone’s mind. So like true athletes some players were spotted in McDonalds getting their late night McFlurry’s on the way home!!

MOM: Maddie, who gathered herself off the pitch without a fuss when the blood was pouring down her face and no one had realised!

Squad: Moi, Freyja, Juhi, Ellie, Kate, Mel, Maddie, Sophie, Heidi, Ava, Johanna, Nikki, Zoe, Rachel
