After the game being moved to another pitch due to floodlight reasons this week, Canterbury 4’s took this in their stride as they were well prepared for this situation. Clearly one umpire didn’t get the memo but eventually the game started a few minutes later than expected!
Having gained a new international signing from New Zealand, Canterbury had high hopes against this tough team.
The whistle blew for a Canterbury push back, determined to get a goal in the first five minutes, unlike last week’s catastrophe!! Cantebrury fought hard with desperation to score the first goal of the game, knowing there was only one point between us. Ashford made a break away and with that the team start falling like dominos! starting with Ellie who took up the wrong sport and started diving across the pitch, taking down the ashford players with her, followed by Munnsey wanting to show of her flexibility and gymnastic skills. This allowing ashford to be 1-0 up at
With an inspirational half time team talk from the man, the myth, the legend Sibs. Cantebrury were eager to start the second half ready to put up a fight. With our new super duper New Zealand player, Juhi making her debut to the team, Canterbury worked together to be awarded many short corners which unfortunately just couldn’t find the back of the net. Moi then knew this was her moment to shine, second game back of the season, she stepped up to yet another short corner, and then BOOM! SMACK! the next thing we know the ball was in the back of the net, equalling out the playing field. Canterbury were then determined to score another goal to get the points in the bag. Nikki was a little too exited at this point and took an extremely wayward shot, which went rocketing right of the sideline, aiming nowhere near the goal.
With Canterbury working hard to try and score another goal, Ashford’s pressure was intense. With our amazing goalkeeper Julie making some of the most fantastic goals ever seen on Earth, Ashford managed to stay out.
At this point the team were lacking energy, trying to fight for the last 15 minutes, which felt like a lifetime; Ashford managed to bring the score to 2-1.
Canterbury couldn’t believe their eyes, they weren’t prepared to leave the ground without a point. Rachel running pitch lengths, after pitch lengths, worked her socks off too much and ended up running right off the pitch to throw up. The team then knew we had to show off Rachel’s hard work keeping the ball in their 25. Moi knew she couldn’t end the day with only one goal and pulled out a whopping one handed LBZ that lobbed the keeper. Canterbury knew they were about the receive a point to their name. The final score was 2-2. Finally back to their winning ways!!
Welcome Juhi to the team!
