The ladies 3’s travelled to Ashford hoping for yet another positive result. After a positive and tactical team-talk and a slightly chaotic warmup we started the game. Ashford were quick to put pressure on us from the beginning passing the ball into space and creating opportunities in and around the D. Our defence remained strong with Charlotte making many good saves. Ashford had numerous short corners and despite trying various tactics were unable to score a goal. In the first half of the game despite our strong efforts we struggled to get the ball up to our attacking D, which resulted in us only having a few goal opportunities. Canterbury provided a strong press against Ashford, which was shown through their struggled attempts to get the ball to their forwards.

For the second half of the game Canterbury appeared much stronger than Ashford and we maintained an excellent level of play and determination throughout the rest of the game, despite the continued pressure from Ashford, we held strong and stopped their repeated attacks.

About 6 minutes from time a great ball down the line from Jess, meant Hannah sprinted after the ball and her efforts were rewarded by getting the ball just before it went off the back line. Spurred on by her great run she provided an excellent ball into the D, picked up by Chloe who slotted it away- boom 1-0 to Canterbury. Despite further pressure from Ashford, Canterbury calmly maintained composure and held out for the win.

A cheeky win for Canterbury, showing grit and determination can pay off and a VERY annoyed Ashford. MOM for Charlotte whose excellent saves help us get the 3 points. Onto next week….
