After all the calls were made, videos reviewed and experts consulted the game went ahead! There aren’t many below us in the league so there was hope and expectation today would be ours!!?
It took a little while of judging the size of the task as Holcombe had assembled a recognisable force of known veteran players! However after the back four of Nick, David (S & L) and Graeme had repelled all that came at us in the opening exchanges the midfield of Jim, Jon, James and Richard started to exert some control on the game. The first short-corner awarded from continued pressure resulted in a crisp strike from Jim at the top of the D. At one nil a degree of comfort settled and with that the introduction of two youngsters up front rather than the lone strike pattern. Issac and Archie ran and ran creating a degree of panic in the Holcombe defence as the relentless efforts of the younger guns started to pay dividends. Richard (back from London for a week or two) linked well and was able to capitalise on a loose ball and put the score to 2.
With Dell and Jon linking well with David (I) the front two continued to control the game. Archie finally got his reward towards the end of the game with a delicate touch after some impressive approach play.
With a clean sheet to boast about we must not forget Barnie who stayed in the game throughout and pulled off an excellent save towards the end to ensure Holcombe returned with nothing Thanks to Kevin and Geordie who wrapped up warm and kept the game flowing!
