Never a dull moment… the Pilgirms travelled away to Holcombe for the last fixture of 2023, knowing a good result would put them ahead of their total points tally from the previous season. The first 3-4 minutes were somewhat pandemonius, with a Keir flick going in and Entwistle giving away a penalty stroke in about 30 seconds of eachother.
Following on from the frantic start, the two sides settled down into some quality hockey, looking to nail down the basics. Going in at half time, it was anyone’s game, although Canterbury probably still edged it on performance. The second half proved more fuitful, with Hurst having a Pflick of his own, and young Upton scoring a frankly absurd goal for a 14 year old in his first Pilgrims game. After some staunch defending, with McMullan and Golding stepping up especially well to support Curtiss at the back, Keir wrapped things up close to the end with a diving reverse hit, the boys taking the big derby bragging rights but a margain of 4 to 1. Merry Christmas!
