On a wet and windy morning Canterbury were pumped for a win, a win meant we’d leap frog the opposition and finish for the Christmas break outside of the bottom two.
We started strongly with good passing and team play. Ziggy was manager extraordinaire giving advice to the subs. The first half we were unlucky not to have converted numerous chances in front of the goal. Chloe MOM Solley made great runs down the wing constantly causing problems for South Saxons defence. Elli took a stick to the knee before half time and was unable to continue. Half time disappointingly finished 0-0.
Jess took over right wing back for the 2nd half and made strong leads on the wing. Kate on the left again hassled and pressured the opposition. Alex & Lizzie held the centre defence with Munsy switching between the wing back roles. Canterbury were not finished yet…… EJ kept the forward line moving and creating chances galore. Finally we were awarded a short corner, gentle persuasion and Scarlett was to the strike the ball and that she did and was unlucky not to score- their keeper was definitely keeping them in the game. Next short corner EJ strike and boom Elysia found the back board from the rebound (her first goal for the 3’s).
Bex was tirelessly running the midfield and Georgia made a few fines saves to keep us 1-0 up. Mim was determined to keep the pressure on South Saxons and was sent sliding across the pitch for her efforts. Gabs decided we needed another and slotted away the ball for her debut goal for the 3’s and put us 2-0 up.
A great 2-0 win going into the break- boom 💥
