Dear diary,
Today it was so so so so windy. After a very long wait to even get on the pitch , the girls were ready to smash the last game before Crimbo , and beat Holcombe. However , the girls were just not ready for it, and could not string together the passes needed to score the goals . A slow start for the Canterbury side caused Holcombe to score their first goal within the first few minutes, setting the score to 1-0 . Although we tried to hold our heads high it was just not to be, and despite some attempts at stringing together good passes , the girls just could not do it. This set the score at 2-0 with a strong Holcombe side, followed by another goal from them whilst we were trying to recover. The half time whistle could not come fast enough , followed by Becs’ motivational speech, the girls had a new found determination to score those goals ! This determination lead to a brilliant team goal , finished by Tara , and set the girls in a brilliant mood to score some more. However despite our best efforts we just could not get any more goals , but the girls worked tenaciously to ensure they did not concede more goals , however luck was not on their side . Down to 10 players in the last few minutes due to an unfortunate yellow card, the girls then conceded a final goal through a well executed short corner, leaving the score at 4-1 . Although the teams attitude shifted from the first to the second half , they were unable to get the goals back and win the game . We hope to see you after Christmas , we will be back stronger and better than ever. Merry Christmas !! XOXO Canterbury 2’s
