In a highly anticipated top-of-the-table showdown at the formidable fortress of Polo, spectators were promised a thrilling contest. The energy during the warm up was high, despite a minor hiccup with the speaker system thanks to Jack’s “one job.”
The anticipation reached its peak within the first 8 minutes of pushback when Josh ‘my type on paper’ Prebble showcased that his biceps aren’t just for show and put CHC ahead 1-0.
The momentum carried into the second quarter as Canterbury continued to dominate. In the 23rd minute, Rhys Harmer netted another goal, and the boys were cruising at 2-0. The Canterbury faithful were in full voice, confident in their team’s ability.
However, just like Jack’s malfunctioning speaker, the home side had a momentary lapse. Teddington seized the opportunity and fought their way back into the game, leveling the score at 2-2. Goalkeeper Chris Rea and the CHC defense made valiant efforts with crucial clearances, but Teddington’s relentless full-court press proved challenging to handle.
As the match headed into the final quarter, the home crowd were gripped with tension and continued to rally behind their team in a bid to reclaim the lead. Despite earning a short corner and creating numerous chances, including some exceptional plays by today’s Man of the Match, Hamish Roberts, it proved to be too little, too late. The game concluded in a hard-fought 2-2 draw.
This result maintains the 1st XI’s unbeaten record and keeps them two points clear at the top of the table. Only time will tell if this draw will have any implications on their promotion aspirations. The stage is set for a captivating remainder of the season.
DOD Mention:
Although the scorer of today’s first goal Josh Prebble was close in content as a result of forgetting his towel, the DOD went to Jamie Tritton.
Instead of opting for a delicious hot meal enjoyed by the rest of the team, I opted for a healthy bowel of Greek Yogurt, nuts, seeds and other healthy snacks, perfect for a recovering athlete. Although my team didn’t seem to share the same interest for such a healthy and delicious post-match recovery meal, if there is anyone out there who wanted to restore my faith in humanity I’ll include the recipe to make your own conclusion:
300g Greek yogurt
100g Oats
20g Walnuts
20g Almonds
20g Cashews
20g Brazil nuts
A handful of chia seeds
A handful of flaxseed
