It must have been an early start to the day for South Saxons as they endured one of their longest away days for an 11am start at Polo Farm.
Having not yet registered any points this season, the Saxons would have been eyeing up last season’s strugglers the ‘Grims to open their account. Those thoughts were soon arrested when Christian Kortlang scored in the opening minutes after some selfless work up front from our fearless leader.
Ethan Aitken expertly doubled the Pilgrims’ lead ten minutes later from a slipped penalty corner. Saxons pulled one back before half time and the half time focus was on not allowing our standards to slip.
Saxons always dangerous on the break continued to create chances. An outstanding performance in goal from Harrison Patching-Scott throughout the game earned him MOM honours and kept the Pilgrims in front allowing the home side to settle and effectively put the game to bed through two Stewie Keir penalty corner goals.
The ‘Grims start to the season has been very satisfying, claiming nine from a possible twelve points.
Next week sees an away fixture at the always challenging Burnt Ash. Let’s see if we can maintain the momentum.

Apparently, these days accidentally misdirecting an aerial pass onto the roof of the clubhouse trumps illiterate social media posts, turning up 40 minutes late, warming up in crocs and running onto the oppo centre forward’s open stick, twice, in the DOD stakes. What is the world coming to?! I blame TikTok!
