The 5s headed to Ashford on Saturday to face a determined and skilled side who came out fiercely. Canterbury withheld early pressure and began to build play with some excellent moves across the pitch. Unfortunately Ashford were the first to take their early chance with two converted short corners that snuck in at the near post. Canterbury showed spirit and skill to fight back in the game and Gardy eventually provided the goal with a short corner dispatched past the goalie. Though Canterbury now looked confident and comfortable Ashford put two more goals with excellent finishes from their striker involving an impressive half volley and an unexpected lob. Half time came with the score at 4-1.
The second half started well for Canterbury and the pressure built again but it was not our day and no more goals were coming despite the repeated attacks. Ashford punished on the counter and then soon after scored a backhand from a tight angle. At 6-1 down no heads dropped and Canterbury showed some promising glimpses of what we can do. The last 10 was again all Canterbury but the Ashford defence held strong. The game finished at 6-1 but that could have been very different on another day.
