On a lovely sunny day, canterbury 4’s set off on a long trek to the bottom pitch to play tunbridge wells 2’s. Apparently this was a game not to miss as jobs were put on the line to be there at the start! A slight hitch at the beginning with the oldies struggling with some complicated technology of pushing a button to start the water, the game finally got underway even if it was a tad later than expected.
With 70% of the team being u18, we certainly weren’t short of fast legs but lacking the experience that the golden olden have to share. The game started off fast and furious with canterbury keeping the ball in the attacking half of the pitch. Within 15 minutes Georgina had scored our first goal dribbling round the defenders and the keeper, neatly slotting the ball into the goal. 1-0!
The play went from end to end with fabulous drives and non stop hard-work from Lottie and excellent balls into the D from our midfielders, and with that the half time whistle was blown.
After a very very enthusiastic rendition of ‘Sibs’s balls’ we went back onto the pitch. We are fairly sure the opposition and crowd over the far side heard our tactics but thankfully Tunbridge Wells decided not to use this information to their advantage.
We powered on through with Georgia Binfield making not 1, not 2, but 12 yes TWELVE saves in a row!! Doing an awesome job and keeping us in the game. After having our third short corner the “knowledgeable” oldies decided to share some experience and change up from a straight strike to a lovely 1-2, Nikki and Sibs duo, a lovely smash by Nikki into the far bottom left corner put us 2-0 up! Staying strong till the end Canterbury ended this lovely outing on a win! Our first three points in the new higher league this year, and it feels wonderful! Well played to the entire team, we aced it!
