Men’s 1st XI vs Old Cranleighans (Home) | 12 Mar 23

Lost 3-1

Scorers: Rasmussen

MoM: A. Laslett

DoD: B. Young

Canterbury looked to build on the 3 points from the previous weekend, and travelled away to Old Cranleighans with some new faces around the team.

The away side started off strong with a couple of chances and corners, however, failed to open the scoring. With both teams having their fair share of chances the score remained 0-0 as we went into the half-time break. Canterbury knew that if they kept applying pressure and playing patient hockey the chances would keep coming. At the end of the third quarter Degiovanni won a corner with just 20 seconds to go which was the perfect chance for Canterbury to try something different. A successful variation left Rasmussen open at the shoulder of the D to fire in a backhand into the bottom corner, giving the away side a 1-0 lead going into the final quarter.

However, shortly after the home side converted their own variation as they deflected the ball into the roof of the net from their own PC. Both teams were pushing for a winning goal and they away side struggled to control the game receiving 2 cards and going down to 9 at moments which left Canterbury exposed and conceded 2 further goals.

With 3 games left in the season Canterbury sit 4th in the league, hoping to finish off on a high note as we face Team Bath this Sunday.
