Won 3-0
Scorers: Ellie A x2, Gabs
MoM: Gabs
DoD: Georgia B
It was a worrying start this week for the ladies 4th team against Brom and Becs, and that was before the game even got going! With Georgia donning freshly washed socks which were still dripping wet, Maddie and Ellie getting a water jet soaking while trying to move the side goals, Nikki losing her balls in warm up… and of course Moi Moi now sidelined for the rest of the season with injury (yes she could still be in contention) there were already a number of candidates for DOD! Then when the first whistle went Bromley and Beckenham were looking strong and putting up a convincing performance against the home team. The usual first 5 minutes game plan was not going to plan. It took 18 minutes before Canterbury managed to break through allowing Ellie A to get her first goal of the game with a dribbler over the line (they all count Ellie!) Though the opposition were still battling strongly and making some fast breaks the team made it to half time 1-0 up.
After a motivational team talk at half time from our mature co-captains Canterbury were ready to play even harder in the second half. (Although this was shortly followed by an immature strop on the bench when one of them subbed the other off!!! 🙄)
This half the home side started of a lot stronger and won a few short corners in concession, this put pressure on the visiting team allowing Canterbury to overload the defence and for Ellie A to convert another field goal taking us to 2-0. After a lot of end to end play Brom and Becks, were down to 10 players due to a green card for a dangerous tackle. Canterbury capitalised on this with Gabs storming forwards to find herself 1:1 with the GK and desperate to run like Phoebe across the park, she calmly slotted the ball in to the back of the goal, making the score 3-0. Canterbury had a few more shots at goal but were unfortunate not to convert them so the game finished with a 3-0 win. Well played team. Canterbury have now caught up on games and have taken top of the league 3 points clear of Tunbridge Wells. Boom 💥 Just one game at a time!
