Lost 3-2
Scorers: Alex Hewett & Moira Clewes
MoM: Alex Hewett
On a morning with torrential wind and rain, Canterbury Ladies 3’s started the home games on the main pitch at Polo Farm with high hopes for a win.
We were very dominant in the first half, winning 3 penalties one of which was converted by Alex Hewett. The wind rolled the second shot and the umpire didn’t allow the second goal and unfortunately, the goalkeeper went the right way for the third penalty for a save.
Half way through the first half Bexleyheath managed to win a penalty themselves and level the score.
We continued playing an attacking half with Moi scoring from open play before half time. Canterbury displaying real strength and determination throughout the half. The half time score was 2-1 to Canterbury.
The downpour continued through the second half of the match with Bexleyheath playing strongly. They one multiple short corners, scoring twice. Canterbury also managed to win many short corners but none were converted with Bexleyheath defending well.
Towards the end of the second half a ball to the head resulting in a serious head wound stopped play and the injured Bexleyheath player was unfortunately taken to hospital to be checked and receive stitches.
There were no further goals after the incident however Canterbury played a very attacking game and were unfortunate not to at least draw the game.
MOM & DOD awarded to Alex Hewett for faceplanting, getting stuck in her coat during warm up then strong play and penalty taking during the game.
