Won 5-1

Scorers: Arthur Aikin (2), John Aikin (2), Tony Jones

MoM: Arthur Aikin

DoD: not awarded

Off to Holcombe with a bare 11 but notably with 3 sets of fathers and sons – John & Pete Ratcliffe, Brian & Simon Hurlow and the regulars -John and Arthur Aikin.

So that lot resulted in the first goal to Holcombe after 7 minutes in circumstances that your reporter has no idea about. However that was the last of Holcombe’s fruits for the day.

John Aikin responded with a short corner goal to equalise followed in the 13th minute with Akin snr “generously” passing to his son Arthur who made no mistake with a lovely little reverse to gain the lead. Another short corner saw a further repeat family duet from father to son to make it 3-1 which was the half-time score.

15 mins into 2nd half another penalty corner which was saved by the keeper only for skipper Jonesy to be on the ball for once and he tapped in to make it 4-1. – see pic

All the while there was some sturdy midfield work from Familes Hurlow and Ratcliffe and defensive work with Trigger and Sir Geoff Philpott not getting their legs in a tangle unlike the previous week. Mike Barton and Biggles (Chris Ward) also did their bit in defence.

For the final offering from deep in the Friars half Arthur with a lovely run this time passed to his Dad who slotted 5-1. The Aikin race was on with 2 goals each – however despite big efforts that was how the score stayed with Aikin snr 2 v Aikin jnr 2 ….. sorry Friars 5 Holcombe 1. However this was merely a ploy to avoid a jug each. Management immediately changed the rules saying that if a family score 3 goals or more that constitutes a jug. Daddy Aikin is finding this season expensive as 2 match fees and a jug each week is being levied. Also deep concern amongst management as Friars are joint top of the league and the last thing they want is to get promoted.
