It warm but cloudy day that Canterbury ladies 2s set out to Sevenoaks. Canterbury started with a different formation with the aim to hold the game and see how they play, unfortunately Sevenoaks had swift and agile stick skills which enabled them to score early. Canterbury knew they had to step up and match Sevenoaks so started looking for the forwards making the leads and passing up the line with a long ball. With Sevenoaks scoring two more goals on the counter attack (although they kicked one in) Becs was there to stop any more from being scored with great saves especially a top corner drag flick save. Canterbury began to move the ball quickly around their players and with their very aggressive style of play, a Sevenoaks player got sent off. We used this to our advantage and we’re able to get a couple of shorts that we gained attacks from. After a tactical half time team talk, we pressured them to make more mistakes and we began to win the 50/50 balls with Chirpy and her amazing interceptions to create more attacking chances. Sevenoaks didn’t hold back and put us under pressure coming away with 3 more goals and fake broken thumb. Clearly they didn’t get the hint and took another green card for not retreating five. Again Canterbury used their advantage creating more and more chances with Lottie pressurising them by using her speed and skills and almost scoring a deflection. Sevenoaks were on the counter attack and a hard shift put in by the defence and midfield they were unlucky to score to make it 7-0. Only a few minutes left on the clock and Sevenoaks tried to make it 8 by gaining a penalty flick but Becs the MOM was there to stop the ball from going over the line. Although the score line was harsh Canterbury fought to the end.
