Men’s 1st XI vs Old Loughtonians (Home) | 15 Oct 22

Won 3-2

Scorers: Brown-Lea, Valentine, Boyne

MoM: Boyne

DoD: Griffiths

Having lost to Southgate on home soil, the boys in white and green owed it to the home fans to come out with all three points and so they did.
Old Loughs having won 3 from 3 travelled to Polo Farm full of confidence, mainly chatting rubbish throughout the whole game. With one of the umpires cutting it short arriving 8 mins before the game started, Canterbury were ready to go! From the first whistle the game was counter attack galore as Canterbury set the tempo winning a short corner within the first minute or two, however, failing to convert. A few minutes later Brown-Lee opened the scoring with a ‘Venom’ous backhand strike going into the roof of the net followed by a nifty little touch from Valentine at the top of the circle leaving the goalkeeper flat footed, which saw the Brie 2-0 up at quarter time.

Old Loughs managed to sneak one back in but a great team move saw Boyne sliding in front of the home fans to deflect the ball into the goal from the top of the D (Not sure what the goalie was doing). Canterbury looked set to go in at half time with a 3-1 lead but after a number of short corners and some dubious decision making from the umpires they managed to pull one back making it 3-2 at HT.

The fans were expecting a goal fest in the second half but it was quite the contrary as both teams looked to get on the scoresheet yet again but some sharp defending from Puzey and Richford at the back together with some crucial saves from Rea in goal kept the Old Loughs players frustrated as the game went on.

The boys were low on energy through a couple of injuries during the game with 2/3 goalscorer’s deciding they needed a rest in the sin bin, but pulled through and restored order to the mighty Fortress Polo as all the points came home. A responsible social event was carried after to tie into the celebrations as the boys organised an Oktoberfest themed fundraiser.
