Lost 1-2
Scorers: Sophie Godwin
MoM: Cara Brogan-Jones
On a bright and hot October day Canterbury 3s took on Ashford 1’s at Polo Farm. Our GK had other ideas and decided to travel to Ashford. On arrival she realised no-one else was there. So she nominated herself DOD, as did the waiting team at Polo.
Canterbury were eager to start and told hold of the game straight away. With lovely passages of play from the team. Quick passes resulted in Sophie scoring a cracker, 1-0.
Ashford continued to try and press against us but Canterbury held their structure. Everyone was giving 100%. Ashford were a physical side and the youngsters handled this well. Lots of positive responses. Score remained 1-0 at half time.
In the second half we had tired legs but the determination and effort remained- only one sub, but nobody gave up. Ashford had a few short corners but Canterbury defended well.
Ashford pulled a goal back (got to admit it was a well taken goal). Late in the second half after the girls defending well, they scored another just not with their sticks!
2-1 defeat not the result that was fair or should have been, but many positives and some of the adults excelled in keeping quiet (not an easy task by any means). Sometimes things just doesn’t go as they should but this will only make the team stronger.
A great team effort unlucky on the result
