The 4’s welcomed Cliftonville 1s to polo at 3:15 on the show pitch, and the spectators were treated to a 10-goal thriller.
Canterbury started on the front foot, dominating possession for the first ten minutes. The pressure finally told, with trequartista Jonny Devereux showcasing his array of skills in the corner, with three Clifton-villians in close attendance, Jonny played a superb lbz across the face of the goal, for club-poacher and skipper Podd to help himself, diving in at the back post.
Unfortunately, the bad guys started to dominate the ball in the midfield, and by halftime the 4s were 2-1 down. Cue Rich Sabin, delivering some hard truths to the side.
Cliftonville continued to dominate the second half- ably helped by Hugh Thompson, who seemed to be feeling the effects of a large Friday night- multiple pints of David Camerons favourite drink in the Cherry Tree. Hugh’s telepathy with Cliftonville’s centre forward was impressive, and the goals continued to rain-down.
As the game opened up, Riley Holness continued his impressive form helping himself to a brace. One of which, involved incredible close-ball control, taking it around 4 defenders before slipping pass the hapless keeper.
At the death, there was still time for Podd to notch his second from a well worked short-corner. The 4’s will return after a game week break to take on Folkestone away. The side continues to progress, and surely will make the end of season play-offs.
Special mentions again for Riley, Angus, Arthur, Freddie and Ollie who continue to impress and a fair wager should be made for the future spine of Canterbury 1s.
