Men’s Friars vs Men’s Friars (Home) | 01 Oct 22

Won 0-0

NO SHOW
As we know we have a couple of avid non playing readers who actually start (on the Friars case probably end) their week at 10am on a Tuesday as they read how the Friars have done at the weekend. So here is a short report – there was no match, hoiwever a few words of comfort hopefully will suffice.
…….Unfortunately the opposition didn’t turn up. As there was complete chaos on Kent’s roads at the weekend owing to accidents and England Highways well thought-out “forward planning” including 70 mile diversion routes we shall be charitable however it would have been nice to have been told.
Instead with a full squad of 16 we had an at least 8-a-side full-on training game. With no de-fibs pitch side this was only a 20 minutes each way game quite expertly and good humouredly umpired by Mr Grumpy for which big thanks.
Mention must be made of a very welcome return after a long sabbatical to Sir Geoffrey Philpott who certainly has not lost any of his comittment as you can see from the pic as he tackles a junior Aikin.
But it was really a case of John Boy Aikin and all the youngsters not being able to get the ball past an impenetrable Trigger in goal who certainly had a lot of action and a good value match fee.
He seems to be enjoying himself but your writer is worried that the post match discussion about cataract operations and other optical issues amongst the senior playing staff might put him off further participation. Fingers crossed that conversations are more interesting and demographically relevant next week. Pip pip.
