The first win of the season was convincing with a strong performance all round. Tom Bean scored first with a drag flick in the opening quarter. Placed hard and bottom(ish) left the keeper stood little chance. The game quickly became scrappy, and Callum Brown-Lea was unfortunate to receive a stick to the face after a tussle with the opposing no.9. Despite blood pouring from his right eyebrow, he was able to continue and still looks reasonably handsome. The whack may in fact of aided his ability on the pitch as not long after he got the final touch on debutant Alec Rasmussen’s backhand cross to make it two zero. Not long after Alec found himself in a 1v1 with the keeper which he calmly despatched on his backhand and made it three zero. To finish Oxford off and send them packing, a cross from one of the good guys was ‘dummied’ by Jack Valentine and Charlie Griffiths for Jamie Tritton to come flying in for a tap in back post. Good pre-scanning Jack and Charlie. Overall, a solid performance and good momentum gained for Southgate (home) next Saturday. Excellent support in the stands, definitely helped get us over the line.
