It was a beautiful sunny afternoon at Holcombe and the Friars started quite well, winning but not converting a number of short corners. But as the game progressed the fast and skilled youngsters of the opposition made their mark and came to dominate. The half time score was 2-0 down and despite some strong individual performances the second half saw the Friars concede four further goals with Merv and Haj picking up nasty injuries to knee and hamstring respectively to add to the gloom and other long-term injuries. Guy put in a stoical performance. Thanks to Tom Blundell as GK for stepping into the firing line on Friars debut.
So the final score was a 6-0 loss. This was another somewhat predictable drubbing for the Friars who have now conceded eighteen goals and scored one in their four matches of the season. See pic of their serious debrief.
In this league, we come up each week against sides fielding a good balance of experience and fast young talent. Indeed, this was the side composition the Friars would have recognised in their own ranks from seasons not so long ago. But as we prepare for the Panto season we feel a bit like Cinderella’s sisters – gathering dust on the shelf! This leaves the Friars going into matches hobbled and unable to compete effectively – a considerable source of frustration for many Friars, especially those with memories of more enjoyable and successful times. Where is our Cinderella we wonder !?
