Canterbury staged a thrilling late comeback to defeat Wayfarers 2–1, overturning an early deficit with a decisive smash-and-grab final quarter.
Wayfarers made the perfect start and took the lead with their very first penalty corner of the game. Executed sharply, the routine caught Canterbury off guard and was finished confidently to give Wayfarers an early 1–0 advantage. Buoyed by the goal, Wayfarers controlled much of the early tempo, moving the ball well, looking dangerous in attack and winning multiple corners. Thankfully Canterbury defence remained solid and limited these chances.

Canterbury gradually settled into the contest, improving their defensive organisation and limiting further clear-cut chances. Despite their efforts to respond before halftime, Wayfarers maintained their lead thanks to disciplined defending and composed midfield play.
The second half saw Canterbury increase their urgency, pressing higher and forcing more turnovers, though they initially struggled to convert this pressure into goals. Wayfarers remained a threat on the counter but couldn’t extend their lead, leaving the game finely poised heading into the final quarter.
It was in the closing stages that Canterbury turned the match on its head. Their equaliser came from sustained pressure, with Kate De Sandis finishing neatly to make it 1–1.
With momentum shifting, Canterbury delivered the decisive blow in classic smash-and-grab style. A scrappy finish from Cara Brogan-Jones gave Canterbury a 2–1 lead late on.
Wayfarers pushed hard for an equaliser in the dying minutes, but Canterbury held firm defensively to seal a dramatic victory, completing an impressive turnaround after conceding from that early penalty corner.

Canterbury finished 6th in the league safely securing their place in the league for next season.
