Canterbury 4s edged a hard-fought contest against Cliftonville 1s with a narrow 1–0 victory, in a match defined by disciplined defending and decisive moments at both ends.

The breakthrough came midway through the first half from a well-worked short corner. Canterbury executed the routine, with Munnsy striking the ball powerfully through a crowded circle, initially saved by the keeper, she followed up her own shot and slotted the ball past the Cliftonville defenders to give her side the lead.

Cliftonville responded well and came close to equalising before the break, only to be denied by the post after a dangerous attacking move.

The second half saw Cliftonville raise their intensity significantly, applying sustained pressure on Canterbury’s defence. Wave after wave of attacks tested the back line, but goalkeeper Ava delivered an outstanding performance, remaining calm and alert to keep a clean sheet. Her efforts ensured Canterbury held onto their slim advantage during a challenging spell.

Towards the closing stages, Canterbury regained control and turned the momentum back in their favour. They applied relentless pressure of their own, earning multiple short corners and keeping Cliftonville pinned back. Despite not adding to the score line, and returnee Kate lifting the ball into players multiple times, their attacking persistence helped see out the game.

In the end, Canterbury’s clinical short corner and resolute defending secured a deserved 1–0 win in a competitive and tightly contested match.
