With not the strongest of teams out today owing to various absences for all sorts of plausible and non-plausible reasons we were fortunate to play one of the weaker teams in our league. By the end of the first quarter, more to our own surprise than anyone else, we were 4-0 up with goals from Bert, Geordie, Lucas and Nick.
The foot came off the pedal a bit after that and no more goals appeared until 10 minutes from the end of the match as Gravesham passed the ball well whilst only scoring a solitary goal.
In between there were flashes of good play from the home team. Owing to Alex, Sir Geoff and Mike being absent John Boy Aikin was moved from striker to centre back – not for the first time but a revelation none the less and he played so well, 16s hit out with pin point accuracy, steady under fire and some good ballast to the defence. So much so that with the number of goals scored “Who needs John Boy up front going forward?” was a discussion point as we tucked into Gadds No 5 and the Ladies excellent tea afterwards.

Indeed with Bert scoring a hatrick who does indeed, especially as he suppled a jug? John Boy was still able to strike the short corners that we obtained but generous to a T he passed and so for once he did not appear on the score sheet.

One-Hand-Tan put in a good shift with 2 goals and once again Lucas Coda-East, Hendo and Guy provided a solid midfield. Young Joran Kearney in goal played well but with not a huge amount to do.

Thanks to Gravesham for their good spirit and humourous running commentary and to Matt Ratcliffe and Michael Holness for umpiring.
