Whilst Canterbury were carrying out a strong warm-up, I decided to get my hair done, as that was obviously more important (jk). Hence why I’m writing this after receiving DOD… which, quite frankly, should’ve gone to Lily after she threw the ball up in the air and it almost landed on her own head 😂. But anyway.
Canterbury started the game with good intensity, moving the ball well and putting early pressure on Ashford. Defensively, we worked hard to shut down play, but Ashford proved dangerous from short corners, which is where all three of their goals came from. Despite solid defending and great effort around the D, Ashford managed to convert their chances.
Our standout moment came when Canterbury won a short corner, which led to a foul inside the D. Chirpy stepped up with ice-cold composure and calmly slotted the resulting penalty stroke, putting Canterbury on the scoreboard and giving the home side a much-needed boost.
There were plenty of memorable moments throughout the match. Lily had a… unique contribution when she accidentally hit the ball and sent her stick flying across the pitch, momentarily distracting everyone (including herself). Niamh produced an absolutely incredible run at goal, beating multiple players before being tripped and fouled just outside the D, earning Canterbury another short corner and huge applause from the sidelines.
Chloe had an outstanding game from start to finish, making strong runs, creating opportunities, and working tirelessly across the pitch. Her performance didn’t go unnoticed, and she was thoroughly deserving of Man of the Match.
Although the final score ended 3–1 to Ashford, Canterbury showed resilience, flashes of real quality, and plenty to build on moving forward — with slightly less flying equipment next time, hopefully.
