After a week of βon, off, on, offβ uncertainty worthy of a weather app having an identity crisis, the game finally went ahead in cold but thankfully dry conditions. Gloves were on, smiles were out, and we welcomed the first game of the new year β plus a couple of brand-new faces in Mariama and Rose. No pressure π !
It was a very good-natured match, with both sides showing great spirit and some tidy hockey. Unfortunately, we went into half time 1β0 down after a very well-taken goal from Tunbridge Wells that left our keeper, Ava, with no chance. Rude, really!
Cue what was obviously a dynamic, inspiring half-time team talk (details classified). Whatever was said worked. We came out a totally different side: attack, attack, attack! Shots were flying in from all angles, rebounds everywhere, and the Tunbridge Wells defence was kept very busy.
Eventually, Poppy did what Poppy does best and popped it in, earning a well-deserved equaliser and very happy teammates. The match ended as a draw, but based on our dominant second-half performance, it really felt like we deserved the win. A cracking team effort, great vibes, and lots to build on.
Player of the Match: Mariama for her consistent performance and decisive attacks down the right flank, but Rose also deserves a mention for confidently stepping into the centre back role.
