The Batchelor-Coop Millers took to AW1 this week, hoping to give their Captain an early Christmas gift by ending their recent mini-slump in the league.
With a full complement of players, the home side started well but were occasionally troubled by a high press from the Bay. However, Will Hanys was able to settle any initial nerves ten minutes in when he scored from open play.
A penalty corner, shortly after, saw Henry Hodson’s flick well-saved on the line; unfortunately, for the visitors, it was saved by a defender’s foot. Bravely stepping up to take the resultant penalty stroke, Hodson junior executed well to take the lead to two.
‘Keep up the good work’ sums up the half-time talk, and so we move on quickly to the second half, where more of the same followed. The main highlight was when Ben Lawford won a second penalty stroke, having been kicked while taking a shot. He generously let Will Hanys step up to score his second, with a well-taken flick high into the net.
The game became a bit end-to-end after this, but Chris Upton, in defence, was equal to all and everything that came his way. Captain Sharratt will now be taking advantage of the Christmas break to return his body to full functionality. He will also turn his attention towards masterminding continued glory for the Millers (while still finishing safely just outside the promotion places at the season’s end).
Thanks to Chris and Phil for umpiring.
