The Bedtime Battle – A Tale of Pyjamas and Perseverance!
As the sun set and the rest of the world was winding down with a cup of tea and Netflix, the Canterbury Ladies 4s were gearing up for a match that was quite literally past Moi’s bedtime.
Before the first whistle, the squad gathered for a photo in all their yellow glory, joined by their faithful mascot – the yellow kangaroo!
From the first push back, Canterbury dominated. Moi, clearly fuelled by caffeine and rebellion against bedtime, unleashed a beautiful strike that thundered off the post. The crowd (i.e., our subs and the yellow kangaroo) gasped in unison. However despite the relentless pressure, Knole Park snuck in an unlucky breakaway goal to go 1–0 up.
Undeterred, Canterbury dominated the attack, but couldn’t capitalise on one before half-time.
The second half saw Canterbury turn up the pressure. After a wave of slick passing and heroic hustle, Vickie appeared in the perfect spot to tap in bullet like strike from Sibs, levelling the score at 1–1. Cue the wild celebrations!
Knole Park came back fighting, but our defensive wall of Sibs, Freyja, Lizzie and Neive stood tall, fearless, organised, and probably fuelled by equal parts adrenaline and indignation. Then Chlöe earned us a short corner, and Niamh C delivered a thunderous strike to the back post, where Zoe calmly slotted it home. 2–1.
But just as dreams of victory began to sparkle, the drama peaked. Knole Park were awarded a penalty stroke! The air grew thick and the floodlights dimmed (metaphorically) as Ava stepped up between the posts… unfortunately the ball snuck in the goal! 2–2 and the final whistle blew soon after.
Despite half the team having not played together before, and the captain deserting for a holiday, the Ladies 4s looked like a team destined for great things. Huge congrats to Hermione, Nieve, and Chlöe for for their superb 4s debuts – cool and composed! M.o.M-> Chloe for an amazing debut for the green and white 💚🤍 D.o.D-> Alex
